Learning Enrichment

Our students enjoy the benefits of an exciting and extensive co-curricula programme that nurtures mind, body and spirit and builds individual confidence and self-esteem. Students can participate in classes such as dance, Performance Arts, acting, debating, public speaking, choral and instrumental music, the Mock Trial Competition and the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme.

All students in Years 7 to 10 enjoy annual Reflection Days and an Outdoor Education Programme. Year 11 and 12 students undertake Retreats that strengthen their relationships with God and friends.

The College Sport Programme attracts high levels of participation by all students.

Students are encouraged to choose at least one team or individual sport each term from an extensive range of options including basketball, netball, hockey, softball, cricket, volleyball, touch, soccer, water polo, athletics, cross country, swimming, diving, gymnastics and skiing.

Debating and Public Speaking

Students at the College are encouraged to participate in these activities in order to develop confidence in expressing their ideas with clarity and logic. Opportunities are given through interhouse debating and selected students represent the College in inter-school competitions.

The College also participates in the Mock Trial competition organised by the Law Society of New South Wales. The Year 11 and Year 12 students have the opportunity to participate in two or three meetings with their coach before each trial and to experience first hand the operations of a Court Trial.

Drama

The performing arts are strongly encouraged at the College. Opportunities for performance are offered through the Performing Arts Festival, College Showcase, the Drama Ensemble, Shakespeare Festival, Greek Drama Festival and in opportunities offered with visiting artists. Skills are developed in performance, directing, producing, sound, lighting and recording.

Dance classes are offered as a co-curricular activity.

Tuition in Performance Arts is also offered. Tuition is offered for individuals and groups in Performance Arts classes by a fully qualified teacher. Students are encouraged to complete Trinity College of London examinations and Eisteddfods.

Music

Building on the College’s long history of musical excellence, students are offered opportunities in various forms of music making. Groups include: Garcia Choir, St Cecilia Choir, Orchestra, and Guitar Ensemble. Tuition is offered for individuals and groups in a wide range of instruments including flute, oboe, clarinet, saxophone, brass, percussion, violin/viola, cello, piano, guitar and in vocal studies.

These are taught by fully qualified, professional performers and teachers.

There are many performance events including the Performing Arts Festival, Ensembles, Concerts, Showcase evenings, musical soirees and musical productions. Many opportunities are open to students to participate in the Liturgy of the College. Students also participate in local eisteddfods.

Outdoor Education

A sequential Outdoor Education program is compulsory for all students in years 7-10. Through this program all students are given the opportunity to participate in a TAFE Outdoor Recreation Program while attending each camp. At the conclusion of Year 11 they receive a certificate in Outdoor Recreation.

The Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme is a self development program available to young people aged 14 to 25. The program equips young people with life skills to make a difference to their community and the world. There are three levels, Bronze, Silver and Gold. Each level involves Service to the community, an Expedition, Acquisition of Skills and Physical Recreation.

Sport

Involvement in interschool sport is not compulsory, but is strongly encouraged. Students have the opportunity to participate in interschool competitions such as athletics, basketball, cricket, cross country, diving, hockey, netball, soccer, softball, skiing, swimming, tennis, touch, volleyball and water polo.

Students from St Vincent’s College participate in interhouse/intra school events.

St Vincent’s College is a participating member of the Association of Heads of Independent Girls’ Schools Sports Association - IGSSA

Additional Activities

Photography classes (dependent on demand) are held after school for interested students.
