Everyone who has spent any time at St Vincent’s College, knows the name “Tarmons” – the name of the original school building.

It was way back in 1856 that the early Sisters of Charity purchased the Tarmons building and the name has been central to the school ever since. Tarmons was built in 1838 as a grand private home, with large rooms and beautiful stained glass windows. The Sisters were lucky enough to be able to buy on generous terms when the owner, Sir Charles Nicholson, was going back to England.

For all Vinnies people the Tarmons building is a symbol of community. It is solid, tangible evidence that we believe in a common goal and have faith in the future. Tarmons is full of memories for multiple generations.

Back in the early days, the Sisters lived by a strong belief in the value of a girls’ education. They believed in the strength of a Catholic Faith and a life supporting the growth of the individual. It was with this approach in mind that they established originally, a primary school and then, a secondary school. It was the renovated Tarmons building where the first students were accommodated, and that’s the way it remained for many years.

Today, with a modern, versatile and inviting campus, St Vincent’s continues to provide a high standard of education. The College encourages excellence, critical inquiry, independence in learning and above all, commitment to truth and personal integrity.

Most recently, the Tarmons Trust has been established to continue the work of the early Sisters. You can be a member of Tarmons Trust by leaving a gift in your Will to St Vincent’s College. You can play your part in a future enriched.

Your legacy for students in the decades ahead

While you were at Vinnies, you were well aware of the Tarmons tradition. Now you have the opportunity to add to that tradition. Through the Tarmons Trust, you can make the College part of your personal legacy by leaving a gift in your Will.

As you know, under the auspices of Mary Aikenhead Ministries, the 21st century St Vincent's College, is a dynamic learning environment which cherishes its Catholic heritage.

Students from the past might be amazed to see how today’s modern technology is integrated throughout the College with current facilities permeating from the classrooms to study time. Students and teachers can easily exchange ideas, resources and learning materials. Modern, user-friendly spaces are blended with splendid historical buildings in an overall Sydney setting that is at once, practical, inspiring and unique.

Vinnies is such a safe, supported environment. Every day girls have wonderful opportunities to openly discuss topical, ethical, social and global issues.

The College fosters creativity, discernment and leadership in the development of students to be courageous women of action. Our College values are: Generosity of Spirit, Hope, Justice, Respect and Service of the Poor. For all Vinnies people who treasure such a priceless approach to a broad based education, it is natural to want to see it continue.

No matter how gratifying our past and how successful and rewarding our present, there are no guarantees for the long term outlook of the College. Government funding can come and go. New rules can be introduced. The more we can be independent, the more likely we can secure a rewarding future for the students still to come.

Tarmons Trust is all about passing on to generations of girls, meaningful and valuable educational options. It is your opportunity for your legacy to be part of Vinnies in the years ahead. The girls of the future will be so grateful.

Should you choose to join Tarmons Trust and make a special gift in your Will to St Vincent’s College, you will change the future.

  • You will enable more young girls to benefit from a well-rounded St Vincent’s experience.
  • You will open doors for girls who would not otherwise get to St Vincent’s.
  • You will extend the vision of the Sisters that commenced at Tarmons all those years ago.

Whether large or small, your gift will be your lasting legacy.

Your Will – a lasting legacy towards a Vinnies education
